Former FS MEC pointed out in CR17 leaks | News Article

The Former Free State MEC, Mxolisi Dukwana, has been exposed as one of those who allegedly benefited a lump sum of cash from the Cyril Ramaphosa 2017 election campaign.

The Sunday Independent on Sunday 11 August 2019, revealed that Dukwana, who is the former Free State Economic Development MEC, benefited at least R600 000 in the CR17 presidential campaign.

Earlier, Dukwana testified at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture allegations and pointed out former FS premier and current ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule. He told the Zondo Commission that Magashule was at the centre of massive corruption in the province. The CR17 leaks have been at the centre of controversy in the country after the Public Protector, Busisiswe Mkhwebane, investigated the R500 000 allegedly received by the president from the Bosasa boss Gavin Watson.

Dukwana is yet to comment on questions sent to him by OFM News.

The Sunday newspapers revealed that Dukwana, in the leaks, appears as an alleged beneficiary while a former Northern Cape premier is also exposed as one of the funders with at least R50 000 donated by him to the CR17 campaign. Mkhwebane found Ramaphosa lied to Parliament regarding the R500 000 donation from controversial Watson for his presidential campaign. She cited leaked emails, which have since been widely circulated on social media, as the source of her information. The leaked emails purport to show that the president consulted with his campaign managers about which backers to approach for funding and how much was donated to his campaign, despite his claims to the contrary.

On Friday 9 August 2019, Ramaphosa's legal team served Mkhwebane with court papers in a bid to have some of the information at her disposal not be made public as Ramaphosa does not deem them of public interest. Ramaphosa is further questioning on how Mkhwebane managed to get some of his personal information.
