One killed in Bfn collision─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 05:35 Tue, 20 Jul 2021
Traffic on one end of the Kenneth Kaunda Road in Bloemfontein ground to a halt on Monday afternoon in the wake of an accident that claimed the life of one man and injured three others.
Emergency medical service, Med24, reports that after 16:30 they received calls that a Toyota, with four occupants, collided with a Volkswagen Caddy.
The force of the impact resulted in the Toyota overturning and landing on its roof, killing the male driver and trapping the second of the four occupants in the vehicle. Med24 says the injured man was removed from the wreckage using the jaws of life, treated, and promptly transported to the Pelonomi Hospital.
The body of the deceased driver had to be removed from the scene also using the jaws of life. A further two occupants of the escaped with minor injuries, with one being taken to hospital. The driver of the VW Caddy did not sustain any injuries.
Med24 confirms Bayswater police were present at the scene to conduct investigations. The cause of the collision is not yet known.
Kenneth Kaunda Road was partly obstructed whilst the scene was being cleared, but has returned to normal.
