ANCWL celebrates women in leading positions | News Article

The ANC Women's League in North West has expressed its satisfaction after eight women were placed in mayoral positions after the recent local elections.

Of the eight two are mayors in district municipalities. The league says this shows women are capable to lead, and in the future they would push for more numbers.

Former North West MEC for social development in the province, Nikiwe Num, is now the new mayor of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District municipality.

Speaking to OFM news ANCWL acting secretary Bitsa Lenkopane says municipalities such as Tswaing and Maquassi-Hills have done well under the leadership of women despite being placed under administration at times.

The league has also indicated that it is delighted that young women have also been roped in as municipal executives.
