Alleged Northern Cape pension fund fraudster’s case postponed─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 05:52 Tue, 10 May 2022

A fraud case against an alleged Northern Cape pension fund fraudster has been postponed to 22 July 2022.
The 62-year old Gert Remer van Rooyen appeared before the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday for allegedly contravening the Pension Fund Act 24 of 1956.
The act states that one has to provide for the registration, incorporation, regulation and dissolution of pension funds and for matters incidental thereto.

According to the Hawks spokesperson in the Northern Cape, Tebogo Thebe, the accused - who is the director of the Defensor security company - allegedly deducted contributions from employee's salaries for the benefit of the Private Security Sector Provident Fund (PSS-PF) but failed to hand over these contributions as mandated.

Thebe says the company now owes the fund an amount exceeding R14 million, of which R11.1 million relates to the outstanding contributions while the balance relates to the late payment of interest.
The accused was instructed to present himself before the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday by the Northern Cape Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.
