Complaints, challenges facing Coligny police to be discussed─── 05:45 Wed, 22 Feb 2023
The North West legislature committee on community safety is meeting with the police and the community safety department on Wednesday 22 February 2023 to discuss challenges at the police station in Coligny.
The meeting will be held at the NG church near the police station.
The provincial management of the police, led by the provincial commissioner, Sabata Kwena, will present a report on the state of vehicles at the station, police holding cells, personnel and complaints from the community.
During the oversight visit to the police station on 16 February 2023, the committee discovered that the police station is operating from a dilapidated shack with limited personnel, and that the holding cells have not been functioning for the past five years, resulting in the detainees being transferred to neighbouring police stations.

Other challenges include malfunctioning ablution facilities, a lack of police personnel and the inability of the police station to render proper services.
The provincial civilian secretariat, Mpho Maleme, and relevant stakeholders are expected to attend the meeting.
