Two suspects arrested after robbery at Bayswater business centre─── BAMBATHA GIKO 10:59 Sun, 26 Feb 2023
Two suspects were arrested on Saturday following an armed robbery at Bayswater, Bloemfontein.
Police spokesperson Thabo Covane says five men stormed into the Bayswater Supermarket and instructed the store manager and customers to lie down on their stomachs. Thereafter, they went to the cashier and took an undisclosed amount of money.
Some of the suspects helped themselves to cigarettes, airtime vouchers and other items. They then ran out of the store.
Covane says the manager pressed a panic button, raising an alarm and alerting the security company.
“The manager quickly pressed the remote panic button and raised the alarm. The security company and the neighbourhood watch quickly responded and the police also arrived.”
Three of the suspects escaped the arrest, while two of the suspects were trapped in the vicinity. The suspects’ vehicle and some of the stolen items were recovered.
A case of business robbery was opened and the suspects will remain behind bars until their court appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court.
