Another student protest erupts at UFS in Bloemfontein – VIDEO─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:53 Mon, 04 Sep 2023

“We are committed to fighting tirelessly until the eZaga system is abolished. We are determined to secure a fair, efficient, and student-centric funding system that prioritises the welfare of all students.”
Students are disrupting classes once more, as seen in a video doing the rounds on social media.
This is due to the new payment system the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has implemented, called eZaga.
An email was sent to students that roughly 90 students are going around disrupting classes because their NSFAS allowance has not been received yet.
The university’s protection services are monitoring the situation.
Last month UFS students on all three campuses caused havoc and disrupted classes, thus leading to classes being moved online.
“The eZaga direct payment system has proved to be an unmitigated disaster for the poor and vulnerable students it intended to support.
Instead of alleviating financial burdens, it has exacerbated them, leaving students battling to meet their basic needs,” said ActionSA Free State Youth Chairperson, Thabiso Mokhatla.
“We are committed to fighting tirelessly until the eZaga system is abolished. We are determined to secure a fair, efficient, and student-centric funding system that prioritises the welfare of all students,” said Mokhatla.
This is a developing story.
