The North West provincial team has been praised for securing an impressive third place at the National Primary Schools Track and Field Championships.

The provincial Department of Education congratulated the team on its performance at the Germiston Stadium from Thursday (20/3) to Saturday. The team’s success reflects the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of both the learners and their coaches, said education spokesperson Mphata Molokwane.

“The impressive performance of the North West team at the national championships is a testament to the commitment and discipline of everyone involved.

“We are proud to recognise their efforts and extend our congratulations on their outstanding achievement,” said Molokwane, adding their success not only places them among the top national competitors but also highlights the strength of sports development in the province.

Meanwhile, Education MEC Viola Motsumi also expressed deep pride in the learners and their coaches. “This is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of our team for securing third place at the national championships.

“Their hard work and dedication have truly paid off, and we extend our gratitude to the educators and parents who have played an integral role in nurturing and guiding these young champions.”

A heartfelt thank you

Motsumi thanked parents and educators for their unwavering support of the athletes. “A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated educators and supportive parents who have played a vital role in nurturing and guiding our young champions.”

Earlier this month, Motsumi faced criticism for her trip to Italy to support learners participating in the Special Olympics, with accusations that she missed a key South African Human Rights Commission meeting on scholar transport issues.

However, she clarified that she was unaware of the invitation until after she arrived in Italy. She emphasised her trip was essential to support learners representing South Africa at the Special Olympics.

Motsumi reiterated the importance of sports development in the province, noting such achievements play a crucial role in the holistic growth and future success of the learners.

The National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships will be held in Bloemfontein during the first week of April.
