Midvaal boosts service delivery with R21 million fleet investment─── ZENANDE MPAME 15:03 Fri, 07 Nov 2025
Midvaal municipality has reinforced its commitment to efficient service delivery with the acquisition of 18 new vehicles valued at R21 million.
The expanded fleet is expected to enhance critical operations across various departments, including waste management, road maintenance, water services, and traffic management. The newly procured fleet includes a water tanker that will be deployed to the roads section to support the maintenance of gravel roads across the municipality.
The roads section will also receive two 2-ton trucks for pothole patching and two bakkies to assist with staff transportation and on-site mobility. The municipality added a compactor truck, a front loader, an excavator, and two additional trucks to its fleet.
Recognising the need for swift emergency responses, the municipality has also invested R4 million in a dedicated water truck that will assist during emergencies such as fire outbreaks and water shortages.
“Midvaal municipality has invested R21 million in the procurement of vehicles to enhance service delivery across our communities,” said spokesperson Idah Satikhe. “The municipality will continue to invest in expanding its fleet to ensure that we reach as many areas across our municipality and meet service delivery needs.
“The new fleet includes trucks and bakkies for road maintenance, a compactor and an excavator for waste management, and a water truck to support emergency response.” To strengthen traffic management, “the traffic department will receive six new vehicles, which are also meant to improve road safety throughout the municipality”.
Last month, Midvaal was recognised as Gauteng’s best-performing municipality at the inaugural 2025 Municipal Performance Awards. It won the best-performing municipality award for its outstanding contribution to municipal sustainability and positive impact on the property industry.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our staff, public representatives, and residents who work together to drive sustainable growth and development,” said Satikhe.
“We are proud of this recognition, and we remain committed to good governance, sound financial management, and excellent service delivery.”
