Midvaal municipality secures 12th consecutive clean audit─── ZENANDE MPAME 06:00 Thu, 04 Dec 2025
Midvaal municipality is positioning itself for a strong future after securing its twelfth consecutive clean audit.
The municipality says the 2024/25 audit outcome lays the groundwork for enhanced service delivery and long-term sustainability, reinforcing its commitment to responsible spending and efficient operations. It aims to ensure that every resident directly benefits from accountable and reliable municipal management.
The auditor-general (AG) praised the municipality for spending 97% of its budget and achieving 89% of the service delivery targets, which is an improvement from the previous year’s achievement of 65%.
In the 2023/24 financial year, the AG urged the municipality to reduce water and electricity losses. The municipality implemented several projects in 2024/25, including replacing ageing water infrastructure, repairing leaks, and penalising illegal connections.
In November, the municipality invested R1.2 million in a new water purification system to ensure residents have access to safe drinking water. The municipality installed an automated chlorine dosing system at the Meyerton reservoir, which automatically adjusts chlorine levels based on flow rate and continuously monitors residual chlorine concentrations.
“The clean audit is not just a paper exercise; it demonstrates a municipality committed to financial discipline,” said Midvaal mayoral spokesperson Idah Satikhe. “Ensuring that every rand of public money is used to improve service delivery and uplift our communities.
“This clean audit for the 2024/25 financial year reaffirms our position as one of South Africa’s most accountable and well-governed municipalities. Midvaal will continue to work to ensure that these clean audits continue to translate into tangible service delivery that every resident can see, feel, and touch.”
In October, Midvaal was named Gauteng’s best-performing municipality at the inaugural 2025 Municipal Performance Awards, recognising its contribution to municipal sustainability and the property industry.
The municipality was audited on its financial statements, annual performance report, and compliance with legislation. This includes, among other things, annual financial statements, performance reports, and annual reports, as well as procurement and contract management, revenue management, and asset management.
