The accused first appeared in court on Tuesday, 23 December, where the matter was postponed for further investigation. They are facing multiple charges, including business robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, unlawful possession of firearms, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to police reports, the group allegedly entered a local tavern where they robbed patrons of 10 cell phones. The tavern owner was also reportedly robbed of liquor and cigarettes.

The incident was reported to the police, who responded swiftly. Five suspects were subsequently arrested and found in possession of two firearms. A red Toyota Corolla believed to have been used during the commission of the crime was also confiscated, said North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, welcomed the arrests and praised the police officers involved for their rapid response, which led to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
