The Parkweg police have launched an intensive investigation following an attempted murder incident.

The incident occurred on Thursday (19/2) at approximately 21:15 near the Majakathata long distance taxi rank in the Bloemfontein central business district (CBD).

A taxi belonging to the Joselda Taxi Association, which had just arrived from Gauteng with 21 passengers, became the target of unidentified gunmen shortly after offloading its commuters.

“The two males then decide to leave the taxi rank to buy food.  As they were about to turn into Short Street, they were attacked with a hail of bullets from across the street by unknown and unidentified assailants,” said Free State police spokesperson, Lt.Thabo Covane.

The investigation is currently focused on identifying the unknown and unidentified assailants who fled the scene after the attack.

The police discovered the midibus was riddled with 29 bullet holes. The driver, 30, who sustained injuries during the ambush, was rushed to the hospital. The crew member fortunately escaped without physical injury.
