“Your voice is now silent in the school corridors, and your smile set with the sun yesterday,” said Hoërskool Sand du Plessis acting principal Elzanri Hoffman.
Bloemfontein schools are mourning the death of a Hoërskool Sand du Plessis Grade 11 learner, who lost his life on Monday (6/7) during the school holidays. Mpumelelo Momani, 21, was described as someone with a caring heart and a never-give-up attitude.
Momani, known as Mpumi, was a talented soccer player and a passionate young man who touched many lives. His family said they are still waiting for the results of the post-mortem examination. They have requested that no further details be shared regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
The schools extended their deepest condolences and shared their thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support with every learner, educator, family member, and friend whose lives were touched by the loss of Momani.
“Mpumi, your voice is now silent in the school corridors, and your smile set with the sun yesterday,” said Hoffman. “We are heartbroken by your passing, but we will always remember you.
“It was a privilege to have you as part of the Sannies family. Rest in peace, Mpumi. Although you were taken from us far too soon, you will never be forgotten.
“Mpumi had an excellent relationship with his teachers and was always ready to strike up a conversation. He will always be remembered as someone with a caring heart and a never-give-up attitude.”
Mpumi was very popular among his peers and an accomplished soccer player, both at school and at his local club. He also served as the assistant coach of the school’s girls’ soccer team, she said.
Dr Viljoen Combined School shared on its social media page: May the school find comfort in the love and support of those around you, and may the cherished memories of this young life bring strength and peace in the days ahead.
Langenhovenpark Combined School said: “May God wrap His loving arms around the Momani family and the entire Sand du Plessis community.”
The Saint Andrew’s School and Grey College extended their thoughts and prayers to everyone who knew and loved him.
The memorial and funeral details have not yet been shared.
