Vanderbijlpark - Gauteng police have confirmed that a 28 year old man was fatally shot and a 34 year old wounded during a skirmish this afternoon between police and residents of Sebokeng outside Vanderbijlpark.

The wounded protestor is in a stable condition, and being held at the Sebokeng police station.

Starting this morning, protesters blockaded most of the roads leading in and out of Sebokeng making it difficult for motorists to access or leave the area. Residents are unhappy over what they call a ‘lack of housing development’ in the area.

This afternoon’s shooting took place when one group of people wanted to remove barricades, and another opposed them.

SAPS Spokesperson Tsekiso Mofokeng says police are investigating the matter.
