Metsimaholo's only fire truck lost in crash─── SABRINA DEAN 11:57 Sun, 26 Oct 2014

Sasolburg - The Metsimaholo Municipality has confirmed that a fire truck with an estimated value of about R1.5-million will need to be written off after a truck crashed into it at an accident scene just outside Sasolburg last week.
Metsimaholo spokesperson Gino Alberts says this is the second fire truck to be written off in less than a year. He says thankfully all the municipality’s assets are insured but cannot yet say how long the relevant claims process will take.
He has, however, reassured residents and travelers that Metsimaholo does still have smaller trucks and bakkies available, adding that other contingency plans are also in place to deal with any fires or accidents.
The accident also resulted in the death of 28-year old traffic official Thabiso Manoto, and left his colleague Meshack Ngwenya critically injured.
According to Free State transport department spokesperson Hillary Mophete, the pair was investigating the scene where a truck had earlier rolled over when another truck ploughed into them, as well as a traffic vehicle, an SAPS vehicle and the Metsimaholo fire truck.
