High traffic volumes expected for the rest of the weekend─── SABRINA DEAN 09:22 Sat, 03 Jan 2015

Bloemfontein - Heavy traffic volumes are expected across the country today and tomorrow as South Africans start heading home from their vacation venues.
N3 Toll Concession spokesperson Andy Visser says yesterday afternoon saw about 2 000 vehicles per hour heading through the Mooi River toll plaza from KwaZulu-Natal towards Gauteng. She says this morning by 08:00, the volumes were already at 1 500 vehicles per hour.
“The roads are busy,” she says.
She says aside form general tips such as not speeding, wearing safety belts and so forth, the N3TC is really appealing to motorists to take cognizance of the weather conditions. “For example, we do experience a lot of mist at Van Reenen’s pass and there has been a lot of rain in the KZN section.
“We are just asking and appealing that people do adapt their speed and so on to those conditions. Also make sure headlights are on and take regular breaks,” she says.
Meanwhile OFM has been urging listeners to pledge not to drive while intexticated through the station’s don’t text and drive campaign.
OFM General Manager Nick Efstathiou says research indicates you have a four times greater chance of being involved in an accident if you text and drive.
