Review of minimum wage for wholesale and retail sector underway | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Department of Labour has began a national consultative process to discuss setting a new multi-year minimum wage for the wholesale and retail sector, and to discuss conditions of employment.

Among the issues to be discussed include the structure of the new sectoral determination, allowances and leave.

The Free State Labour department’s principle inspector for basic conditions of employment, Johan Lombard, says the public hearings are targeted at all stakeholders affected directly and indirectly including employers, employer organisations and employees.

Currently, the Wholesale and Retail Sectoral Determination, which took effect from February 1st this year, states the minimum wage increased at rates between 6,1% to 8,1% in various job categories.

The Free State round of the public hearings will take place today at the Department’s Bloemfontein office.
