FS Health MEC says department's problems will soon be a thing of the past─── CATHY DLODLO 07:20 Fri, 31 Jul 2015

Bloemfontein - Free State Health MEC Benny Malakoane says problems such as a shortage of consumables and medication at hospitals in the province will soon be a thing of the past.
During a question-and-answer session in the Free State legislature yesterday, Malakoane said his department's finances have improved since it was taken over by provincial treasury. Malakoane's department was put under administration when the department's financial problems lead to a shortages of staff, medication and a multimillion Rand backlog in the maintenance of medical equipment.
He said the department's accruals of R800 million are now down to only R250m and that of the medical depot - responsible for ordering and delivering medication to hospitals and clinics - is down from R270m to R84m.
