HRC concludes visit to school for the deaf - report to follow─── DANE BEISHEIM 15:37 Tue, 15 Sep 2015

Leeudoringstad - The South African Human Rights Commission sees any instance where basic human rights may have been violated in a very serious light.
This is according to the SAHRC’s Bokankatla Malatji and follows after the commission concluded its oversight visit to the North West Secondary School for the deaf in Leeudoringstad earlier today.
The visit follows after three girls died in a fire which broke out in their hostel last month. Fifty pupils had to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries after they jumped from the first storey to escape the blaze.
Meanwhile, Malatji told OFM News that a report will be filed about whether the fire warning systems at the school were functional and if a school official was on duty at the time of the fire.
