Johannesburg - A family farming operation in the Northern Cape has taken top honours as the Grain SA 2015 Grain Producer of the Year.
The Bruwer family's Genade Boerdery in Douglas was announced as the winner of the sought after title during a glamorous event at Kyalami Theatre on the Track in Johannesburg last night.
Genade Boerdery is run by Vickie Bruwer and his three sons Hannes, Gerhard and Vickie Jr. They produce mostly maize, wheat, cotton and lucern, and have also branched out further into sunflower, ground nuts, potatoes and livestock.
According to an article in SA Grain magazine, the awards provide Grain SA with an opportunity to showcase exactly what a producer needs to do to be a successful gran farmer, as well as to give recognition to excellent producers.
