Kimberley - Former Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) secretary-general and current Geloftevolk Republikeine leader, André Visagie, is expected back in the Northern Cape High Court today for an application for leave to appeal a five-year jail term.

Visagie was sentenced to five years imprisonment in July 2014 for illegal possession of five handmade guns, a 9mm firearm, and a large quantity of ammunition.

He was arrested with his minor son at their home in 2011, after police found the weapons and 650 rounds of ammunition. The son was acquitted of all charges.

Visagie was granted R10 000 bail during his sentencing, and was granted leave to appeal. His bail was extended pending the outcome of his appeal.

Visagie gained notoriety for the "don’t touch me on my studio" incident on e.tv on April 7, 2010. During a discussion on race in South Africa following AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche's murder, he became involved in a spat with fellow panellist, Lobohang Pheko.

Visagie ripped off his microphone and stormed off the set.
