Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says police now needs firearms owners, who kept their firearms for safe keeping at the New Van Riebeeck Cycle House Dealer, to come and claim their firearms with proof of ownership. This includes estate firearms which were kept at this dealer pending the finalisation of estates.

Thakeng says police members earlier did routine checks for compliance with the Firearms Act, when they found that the dealer was in non-compliance with the Act.

The police say people who applied for firearm licences between 2011 and 2015 are also requested to come and collect their documents.
