IEC NC not fazed by strong August winds in the province─── CATHY DLODLO 16:35 Mon, 01 Aug 2016

Kimberley - The IEC in the Northern Cape says they are not fazed by strong August winds gushing through the province this time of year.
Spokesperson Elkin Topkin says they feared that the tents they usually use as temporary voting stations would not withstand the wind, so 19 aluminium tents were acquired that were erected in informal settlements in the Kimberley area.
Topkin says they had some scary moments since the tents went up, but nothing serious to worry about.
He says the safety of voters is the most important priority.
"All our tents are A-frame aluminium tents that are fairly wind- and rain-resistant. We have had a few calls this morning regarding a few possible problems occurring mainly outside the tents. But the tents themselves are quite sturdy," he says.
