Bloemfontein - Students at the University of the Free State have thrown down the gauntlet and are willing to take the fight to management, who planned to reopen all three university campuses tomorrow morning.


Communicating via Whatsapp voice messages, students have been rallying support and called for those who are not afraid to join them in ensuring that the UFS does not reopen.

Scores of protesting students occupied the UFS' main gate, while some roamed the university's main campus and removed students from academic halls and buildings.

They also occupied the Thakaneng Bridge and Student Centre, with the intention of hosting a night vigil in support of the Free Education movement. This organisation released a statement earlier today, pledging their commitment to ensure the academic programme of the university does not resume.

This follows the UFS' statements on their website and social media, informing students that academic and administrative functions would resume at the university tomorrow.
