Supra impersonator released on R1 000 bail | News Article

Mmabatho - The 25-year-old who has been allegedly attempting to extort high profile politicians using the name of North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, has been released on R1 000 bail.

According to the spokesperson for the premier, Brian Setswambung, Thato Hengari appeared at the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud on Wednesday. He was granted bail with restricted conditions.

Setswambung also adds that the magistrate said there was a possibility that more charges would be added to Hengari’s case in addition to fraud, possibly an attempted murder charge.

It is alleged that the conman resorted to threats to bomb Mahumapelo’s house if they do not pay him the sums he requested of them.

Hengari is expected to appear again in court on March 29 when it is believed his trial will begin.

"The court granted him bail of R1000 on condition that once a week, he must report to the nearest police station. Secondly, he must not interfere with the investigation. Thirdly, he must not approach any witnesses in the case and if he leaves the magisterial district, he must report to the investigating officer."
