The R104 road between Mooinooi and Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West has been reopened for traffic.
The regional road was closed off by police after protestors from the Bokfontein informal settlement allegedly barricaded the route with rocks and stones today. One man was injured and hospitalised when his vehicle hit the rubble and overturned.
According to police’s Adele Myburgh, motorists can safely travel on the road and no longer need to take alternative routes. The protesting community members were allegedly unhappy as local mines do not employ the local people.
Traffic officials and police were in the area to assist and direct motorists to alternative roads as well as to monitor the situation.
