NC DA councillor in hot water for post aimed at motorcyclists | News Article

A Northern Cape DA councillor was suspended after he made disparaging remarks about motorcyclists.

In a Facebook post, the angered Sol Plaatje Municipality councillor, Ockert Fourie, posted that he wishes to see pieces of steel, blood, intestines, and brains against lamp posts and tar roads. This he wishes upon inconsiderate and noisy motorcyclists who swear and gang up, should they be reprimanded for not taking the sick, the elderly, babies and shift workers into consideration.

Fourie has since removed the post that was made, over the weekend. He has been suspended from all DA activities.

The party’s Andrew Louw stated that an urgent meeting was held by provincial executives on Monday and an investigation is underway.

Louw apologised to the biking community on behalf of the party for the post. “It is very unfortunate that a public figure or even an ordinary member of the community would make such utterances. As the DA we would like to distance ourselves completely from the utterances made by councillor Fourie,” expressed Louw.

According to Louw, the post is a serious matter and does not belong in the community. Fourie has been suspended pending an internal investigation. The suspension means that he is barred from participating in any activity that relates to the party.

“This matter will not be swept under the carpet. We will deal with it because we definitely believe that we should respect all people, the rule of law, and all communities,” elaborated Louw.

Ockert has since apologised.
