While delivering the State of the Province Address (SOPA), Mahumapelo said the province is embarking on a number of projects to deal with the issues relating to water, sanitation and the lack of housing in the province. 

This comes just a day after the Democratic Alliance in the Province lodged a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission regarding poor sanitation at Boitumelo Primary School near Mahikeng. 

The complaint follows reports that a number of pupils in the province have to bear the brunt of having to use pit toilets and worm-infested toilets. Mahumapelo, in his speech, however, said thus far backlogs regarding the eradication of bucket toilets have been cleared in all formal settlements. Seven sanitation projects were completed at public schools in the last fiscal year. 

He said there are going to be more projects and infrastructure developments to deal with water and sanitation issues in the province.
