Lethabong protesters block road to Rustenburg─── 09:46 Tue, 12 Jun 2018
Protesters interrupted early-morning traffic in Lethabong in the North West on Tuesday, barricading the road to Rustenburg with rocks and logs.
Residents of Lethabong Gardens are demanding electricity.
Buses transporting workers to the mines around Rustenburg were unable to leave, while minibus taxis used the Bethanie Road near Brits, travelling about 95 kilometres extra to reach Rustenburg instead of the usual 45km. Others used roads through cattle pens in the area.
The protest had started on Monday, but the roads were cleared to enable traffic to flow, although some mineworkers were prevented from going to work.
The protest also affected pupils attending schools in Lethabong and surrounding areas.
