NYDA failing FS youth─── PULANE CHOANE 10:07 Thu, 15 Nov 2018
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is failing the youth in the Free State and is not meeting its deliverables, one of which is facilitating and providing employment opportunities to young people in the province.
This is according to DAY, which is the Democratic Alliance’s youth wing in the province, which said - in the light of this- it will lobby its youth groups to picket later this morning outside the NYDA Offices in Bloemfontein’s CBD.
The youth structure says the fact that 34,4% of youth in the province are unemployed - which is the highest number in the country - is proof of the agency’s failure to serve the youth in the province. The picket will be led by the DAY provincial chairperson, Nomayeza Bagamela, who said in a statement that the structure will following the picket and submit a memorandum of demands to the agency. OFM News could, however, not get hold of the chairperson of the structure for clarity on what some of the demands in this memorandum will be.
The picket will take place at 11:00 this morning outside the NYDA offices in Bloemfontein at the Sanlam Plaza Complex in the CBD. Meanwhile, OFM News also tried to contact the regional manager at the agency, Tumi Dithebe, who, at the time this article was published, had neither returned our calls nor responded to our texts. Earlier this year, Stats SA revealed that two out of three job seekers between the ages of 18 and 25 have no realistic chance of accessing employment and four out of ten Free Staters are unable to find permanent employment.
