Rumours that the Vaaldam walls are cracked, are untrue. This is the word from Vaaldam Area Manager Marinus de Wilde. He says yesterday 14 sluices were open, but today one has been closed. The dam is currently 111% full. De Wilde says currently the inlet is still more than than the outlet, but by tomorrow this should stabilise. Further down at the Bloemhof Dam, however, things are slightly different. Dries Visser says the Bloemhof Dam is currently at 117% with 11 sluices open. He says most houses down-river have already been evacuated. Some 2950 cubic metres are being let out per second. De Wilde said if there is no rain today, the situation there would also stabilise by tomorrow.
