Bloemfontein - Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, is expected to be careful of this year’s budget allocation and his spending priorities, more specifically in the field of Higher Education.

This is according to economic expert, Raymond Parson. Parson says although some provision has been made for the financing of the Fees Must Fall movement, there are still some requirements that need to be filled. He says the Health Department would also require some allowance to be made.

Parson says these will, however, need to be accommodated on a tight budget. He says the main focus should be on means to reinforce economic growth, saying: “We need economic growth, we need inclusive growth, we need job creation. In the long run, all that will make the Minister of Finance's job easier because he will get tax revenues. At the moment, though, he will have to put up some tax rates and that will hurt some people.”
