Peanut prices doubled due to increase in exports─── 16:40 Fri, 28 Jul 2017

There is some hope for peanut producers, despite a steady decline in the production of groundnuts over the last five decades.
According to the owner of The New Nut Company, Gerhard Dreyer, the high minimum wage makes production difficult for producers.
However, peanut prices have doubled in the last three years due to an increase in exports. This makes it an attractive industry for prospective producers.
Agricultural Economist Wandile Sihlobo says, the decline can be attributed to numerous factors including the drought, but the seed type has also become a fundamental issue.
