Agri podcast: Agri economists speak about fuel price increase | News Article

Even though the expected fuel price increase will increase farmers' input costs, it, fortunately, comes at a quiet period in the primary agricultural sector, specifically in the areas where crops are at reasonably early stages of growth.

However, Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa, says the same cannot be said for agribusinesses as those in logistics will experience cost increases.

Furthermore...After steep fuel price increases towards the end of 2021, South Africa will have a nearly R1,50 per litre fuel price increase this month. This is according to Koketso Mano, an Economist at FNB. She adds that the increase in fuel prices are a result of the surge in oil prices.

Janine Ryan, the managing editor of Farmer's Weekly, says that around 80% of Botswana’s one million cattle are currently being farmed by smallholder farmers.
