A member of the Agripreneur Farmers Institute, Tshegofatso Choane, says they provide training, develop and empower rural farmers in the Thaba Nchu area, located in the Free State province.

“The programme was formally started in 2020,” says Choane.

They aim to teach and equip farmers with the necessary skills for sustainable crop production and livestock management, says Choane.

Speaking about the recent appointment of veterinarian Dr Nthabiseng Ramokhosi, Choane says they are excited for the journey ahead. “As part of our many projects and workshops that we have, we have livestock vaccination programmes that are coming April. As part of our compliance we appointed her,” says Choane.

“Dr Nthabi will be working alongside another recently qualified vet. They will be working with our rural farmers, advising them on the different treatments, and the different diseases associated with their livestock,” adds Choane.

She notes that the highlighted focus areas will be rural areas, where these subsistence farmers do not always have access to continuously developing disease management skills and aids.

Cattle and sheep farmers will be the focus point, adds Choane. She says “later on we will look at branching out to other bigger farmers”.

She concludes by inviting farmers to their upcoming vaccination workshop taking place on the 9th of April.
