The North West Agricultural Show took place in Vryburg from 18 to 20 September, marking its return to the region.

“The show made a triumphant return, attracting hundreds of farmers, agribusiness leaders, and enthusiasts to the farming hub of Vryburg,” said the provincial agriculture department in a press release.

The three-day event, held in partnership with the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality and Naledi Local Municipality, included live demonstrations, trade exhibits, masterclasses, and networking platforms. “The show highlighted innovation, market access, and opportunities for smallholder and emerging farmers”.

Panels and masterclasses tackled key issues shaping the sector, including genomics in livestock selection, effective farm financial management, budgeting, record-keeping, reinvestment strategies, and the importance of animal traceability.

Farmers also engaged in discussions around value chain opportunities, market access, and modern agricultural technologies.

District Municipality executive mayor Cllr Motseokae Maje praised the event for illustrating the resilience and talent of the region’s farmers.

“This is an event that demonstrates the strength of the region, showcasing the talent, innovation, and resilience of our farmers while highlighting the potential of agriculture to drive economic growth and improve livelihoods.”

For smallholder farmers, the show provided a vital platform to connect with markets, display their produce, and gain exposure. Rabbit farmer Palesa Mbanxa described her participation as both inspiring and rewarding.

“The support we received from the department and visitors over the past three days has been overwhelming, and it motivates us to continue growing our business and contributing to local agriculture,” she said.

‘The North West Agricultural Show 2025 has been a remarkable success’

North West MEC Madoda Sambatha hailed the show as a resounding success. “The North West Agricultural Show 2025 has been a remarkable success, providing our farmers with a platform to showcase their products, share innovations, and connect with new markets.”

He confirmed future editions will expand further, with next year’s show set to include awards recognising excellence, innovation, and outstanding contributions to agriculture.

“This edition has set a high standard, and we are committed to building on this momentum to make future shows even more impactful and rewarding for our farming communities.”
