In 2009 Irene Fischer was a radio presenter at OFM, fondly known as "Margarine".

Her life changed abruptly in October of that same year when she sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a horrific car accident that left the right side of her body paralyzed.

After years of rehab and finally being able to walk again, Irene quickly realized that a massive lack of awareness persists among the general public regarding traumatic brain injury and this led to warped preconceived ideas. She faced many regrettable judgements and so she decided to make a difference. Today she’s a motivational speaker who strives to cultivate understanding about brain injury in each person she meets.

Since the life altering accident, she also became an author and wrote a nonfiction memoir, “I am Still Here”, that chronicles her journey to recovery as well as revealing the thought-provoking lessons she learned from several bewildering challenges and triumphant victories.

She has collected quite a few golden nuggets along her journey to get back on her feet and during the next couple of months she would like to share some with you.

Irene is the spokesperson for APRAV (the Association for Road Accident Victims) as well as the spokesperson for BrainLife, a Non Profit Organisation focused on supporting brain injury survivors and their families by providing counseling and therapy.
