Bok brains step in to bolster Bulls─── MORGAN PIEK 08:52 Mon, 29 Dec 2025
The Bulls will receive a timely boost behind the scenes, with a group of Springbok coaches set to provide short-term technical support following a formal request from the Pretoria-based franchise.
Springbok assistant coaches Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery, SA Rugby Mobi-Unit coach Duane Vermeulen, and Head of Athletic Performance Andy Edwards will lend their expertise in specific focus areas as part of SA Rugby’s ongoing collaboration with its member unions. The request was approved by SA Rugby and the Springbok management, reinforcing the strong working relationship between the national set-up and the country’s leading franchises.
The Bok coaches will engage with the Bulls on a limited basis, both remotely and in person where required. This support aligns with SA Rugby’s standard practice of sharing national coaching resources when franchises reach out for assistance.

Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus stated that the move was a natural extension of the existing partnership between the Springboks and their provincial teams. “We maintain regular engagement with our franchises, and when they request input in specific areas, we assist within the normal scope of our roles,” said Erasmus.
“We understand the importance of a strong, collaborative relationship between our provincial teams and the Springboks, as it ultimately benefits South African rugby as a whole.”
SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer echoed those sentiments, welcoming the collaboration and underlining the organisation’s commitment to collective growth.

“Our approach has always been to work collaboratively with our franchises where possible,” said Oberholzer. “We want to see all our teams perform to the best of their ability, and we will continue to support them when they reach out for assistance.”
Importantly, the support is short-term in nature and does not amount to any formal appointments with the Vodacom Bulls. Instead, it reflects a united approach aimed at strengthening South African rugby at all levels, from franchise competitions to the green and gold.
On Saturday at 18:00, the Stormers will tackle the Bulls at the Cape Town Stadium in the URC.
