The Lions thrashed United Rugby Championship (URC) log leaders Glasgow 54-12 at Ellis Park on Saturday (18/4) but could not dethrone Franco Smith¹s men from the top spot.
The Lions scored eight tries with Henco van Wyk scoring twice before half-time. Erich Cronje and SJ Kotze also scored in the first half, as did Dan Lancaster for the visitors, but the hosts were comfortably in the lead (26-7) at halftime.
Things did not get better for Glasgow in the second half, with Ruan Venter, Morné van den Berg, Siba Mahashe, and Quan Horn all crossing the whitewash, but Stafford McDowall did manage to get one in for Glasgow.

And at Bridgend, the Sharks’ URC play-off hopes are in doubt after they suffered a 21-17 defeat at the hands of Ospreys. The hosts led 14-12 at the break after opening the scoring with a try by Wales international Dan Edwards.
Captain Jac Morgan also scored a try in the first half, with the Sharks countering courtesy of flanker Phepsi Buthelezi.
The Bok wing Ethan Hooker also scored for the Sharks in the first half, setting the stage for a tense second half. Replacement prop Garron Phillips crossed the whitewash for the hosts in the second half, as did Buthelezi for the visitors, for his second try of the match.
However, the Sharks did not have enough in the tank to secure the victory.
