Home Affairs issues first braille marriage certificate | News Article

The Department of Home Affairs has issued its first braille marriage certificate.

Minister Aaron Motsoaledi handed over the certificate to Cindy Mullins and Frankford Williams when the couple got married on Robben Island during the annual Valentine’s Day weddings.

The couple met 13 years ago at a blind cricket match in Cape Town and have been living together for the past eight years.

The department says that Cindy has opted to use a double-barrel surname.

In a video, Frankford says this is a huge step for him because he never thought anything like this would happen for him.

"We never knew or thought that something like this would happen because you live in a - what I call a psychic world - where people don't even do braille anymore."

Every year hundreds of couple visit Robben Island to say "I do".
