Ramaphosa says new laws will protect women and ensure perpetrators are dealt with accordingly.

"There will be legal reform to protect women from violence and to ensure that perpetrators are given the harshest penalties possible," Ramaphosa said.

"Amendments to the Sexual Offences and Related Matters Bill, the Criminal Amendment Act and the Domestic Violence Act will strengthen existing laws to protect women and children."

Ramaphosa made these comments during a dialogue on gender-based violence and femicide.
