Marumo remain in high spirits after minor collision in Durban─── MORGAN PIEK 12:26 Mon, 03 Nov 2025
The Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League club, Marumo Gallants, remain in high spirits after the team was involved in a road accident in Durban on Sunday night following their game against Golden Arrows.
The team is camped in Durban for the week, as on Sunday they played against Arrows in the league, while on Wednesday they will take on Gavin Hunt’s Durban City, and this coming Sunday will again face Arrows – but this time in the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup. On Sunday, the team suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Lamontville-based Arrows - their heaviest defeat of the season and the first time they conceded more than one goal in a game.
On the way back to the team hotel on Sunday evening, the team bus was involved in a minor collision, triggering a three-car pile-up. Fortunately for Marumo, no serious injuries were reported among the players or the technical team members.

“The incident occurred as part of a three-car pile-up, which caused a private vehicle to be pushed forward and lightly bump the rear of the team bus. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and all players, technical staff, and personnel on board are safe and in good condition.”
Club management has expressed relief and gratitude that everyone involved escaped unharmed, stating:
“We are thankful that all our players and staff are safe. The incident was minor, and we appreciate the prompt response from local authorities and emergency services who ensured everyone’s safety.”

The Marumo Gallants FC team will remain in Durban for the duration of the week as they continue preparations for their upcoming fixtures against Durban City on Wednesday, followed by the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final on Sunday.
It’s the second time this season that an accident involving a PSL team bus has been reported. In September, Orlando Pirates were involved in a much more serious accident while en route back home after their league fixture against Chippa United in the Eastern Cape.

Upon encountering a collision between two vehicles, former Marumo Gallants coach and now Pirates coach, Abdes Ouaddou, along with several staff members, disembarked from the team bus to assist those involved.
While attending to the scene, another vehicle collided with the stationary vehicles, striking the group and causing serious injuries. Ouaddou, along with the five affected staff members, was immediately transported to the hospital, where they received medical care.
Wednesday’s game between Durban City and Marumo Gallants at the Chatsworth Stadium will kick off at 19:30.
