Weird Wide Web - Home-made mini-boat sails from New Hampshire to Norway─── 15:19 Thu, 17 Feb 2022
After a group of New Hampshire students built a roughly six-foot-long miniature boat and filled it with gifts in late 2020, they set it out in the Atlantic Ocean, hoping it would eventually wash ashore and be opened by someone across the globe.
Posted on upi.com, while some students at Rye Junior High School wished for it to drift to Europe, then-sixth grader Solstice Reed wasn’t as convinced the voyage would be successful. “Honestly, I thought it would sink,” she admitted. Fortunately, to her and her peers’ pleasant surprise, Reed’s initial skepticism turned out to be unfounded.
The boat was launched by fifth- and sixth-grade students in the Educational Passages group at Rye Junior High School in October 2020, and the vessel contained an onboard GPS, but the signal was not reliable. "The GPS stopped reporting back in September and everyday since I have been checking, as have the students, and then suddenly on Monday, Jan. 31 a location popped up after four months of quiet," Educational Passages Executive Director Cassie Stymiest told WMUR-TV.
