Bloemfontein - A man arrested for allegedly running an illegal brothel in Fleurdal, Bloemfontein is expected to appear in the city's Magistrates’ Court today.
The 56-year-old man was arrested by members of the local Crime Intelligence and K9 Units on Saturday morning.
Free State police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says he was apprehended at the same property where four alleged prostitutes were arrested on Friday. The house is also allegedly operating as a guesthouse.
According to Marope, the property has been under surveillance for some time following a tip off about illegal activities taking place. He says two of the women respectively 31 and 37 are from Durban. The other two women aged 39 and 40 are from Johannesburg.
Marope says one of the women was also in the possession of cocaine.
All five will appear in court today. The alleged owner of the property faces a charge of illegally operating a brothel. The women will appear on charges of prostitution in terms of the Sexual Offences Act. One of the women faces an additional charge of illegal possession of drugs.
OFM news has reliably learned that the alleged owner of the property is apparently employed at a higher education institution.
