Radhiant operates South Africa’s first dedicated mobile 3D mammography fleet, taking hospital-grade breast screening directly to workplaces, mines and communities. The radiologist-led service currently has seven mobile units and has screened more than 20,000 women since its establishment in 2023.

The mobile units use 3D digital breast tomosynthesis, which takes multiple low-dose images and reconstructs the breast in slices, helping radiologists see through overlapping tissue.

According to Radhiant, accessibility is one of the major barriers to regular screening. Their mobile service allows eligible women to book a time slot at a workplace or community site, with the scan taking around 15 minutes and the entire visit about 30 minutes. 

Results are reported by a specialist radiologist, with a target turnaround of two days. The service has already operated at more than 300 locations across South Africa, including peri-urban and rural communities. 

More than 400 women with suspicious findings have been referred for biopsy, highlighting the importance of accessible screening and appropriate follow-up.
