She highlights the March 27 issue of the magazine with special focus in the news section on the Covid-19 virus and the impact it has globally and on local supply chains.  According to Erasmus it is early times and the impacts are only starting to show know with border closures and local agricultural events that have been cancelled. This includes the Bloem Show and the Royal Show at Pietermartizburg in KwaZulu-Natal. At this stage there is no confirmation yet about what is going to happen with the Nampo Harvest Day.

Erasmus says it seems that organisers are looking at a possible postponement of the event. The cotton industry is also expecting a decline in the demand for cotton.

There is also a bit of a disruption for fruit exports due to an expected drop in consumer demand later in the season.

In another news story Erasmus highlights the new tariff on poultry imports that has been announced by government. A new article also focuses on the oil price which has dropped significantly and the impact it will have on especially summer grain farmers.

That was Denine Erasmus, Editor of Farmer’s Weekly, only on Before Dawn.
