Departmental agricultural programme in full swing | News Article

Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela and her team visited the agricultural empowerment project for women from rural areas in the province. The training is taking place at a farming site at Mafahlaneng, at Tweeling in the Free State.

The women being trained are women who have been empowered through the Progressive Women’s Movement South Africa and the United Nations Development Programme to assist them in becoming self-sustainable contributors to the agricultural economy.

Pietersen says that these programmes will take place across the province for those women who seek to equip themselves for the betterment of their and their families’ lives.

Furthermore, the programme is set up in ways that not only educate women on how to farm but also how to become economically sufficient. This is achievable as the programme focuses on certain accounting aspects, market value training and exposure to the financial knowledge necessary for the agricultural industry.

Pietersen concludes by saying that they want to allow women to stand on their own feet and this programme will enable the monitoring of that.
