AFASA conference focuses on economic plans for future─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 06:47 Tue, 08 Oct 2019
The African Farmer’s Association of South Africa (AFASA) on the first day of its third Agri-Business Transformation Conference just outside Bloemfontein approved a 2020 sector plan of the agricultural sector.
AFASA’s chairperson, Neo Masithela, says this plan will be delivered to the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, and the presidency. According to him, a document to respond to the economic challenges facing the country, which the Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, tabled for discussion, was also compiled on Sunday by the association’s executive national council. This to make an impactful contribution from the perspective of black farmers.
The organisation also discussed how best black farmers with their contributions in the country will do in the economic dispensation.
He says Patrice Motsepe, founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, announced on Sunday high-level discussions with, amongst others, the Motsepe Foundation. Commercial banks are in the process to launch a multi-billion rand fund focused on agriculture, farming and related industries. The fund will unlock opportunities for black agriculturists and provide them with preferential access to loans.
