In our Friday insert, only on OFM News' Agri Hour, Christal-Lize Muller speaks to the editor of Farmer’s Weekly, Denine Erasmus, about the latest news in the agricultural industry covered in the magazine and on its website...

She refers to the magazine's June 5 and June 12 combined issue, that is available on shelves. According to her, there is still two combined issues of the magazine before they will on July 17 switch to their normal cycle of producing a magazine weekly.

See PODCAST below

Erasmus highlights a feature in the latest available published magazine about agri-processing and a business in Leeudoringstad in North West where a mother and her daughter-in-law grow lavender and rosemary, which they use to produce herbal products. Their business is very successful after they started off with small volumes. In the meantime they have grown the business quite a lot and it has blossomed into a viable business. The pillars and the values of the business includes a strong team of people with the focus on job creation and transfer of skills and as the business grows they are able to produce jobs, especially for woman in the Leeudoringstad area.

Erasmus also highlights news stories on their website. In one of the stories the magazine spoke to some of the co-ops and equipment manufacturers about the impact that the cancellation of the large agricultural shows in the country will have on them this year. An event like the Royal Show has been cancelled this year and will only happen next hear. There is still, however, uncertainty about the Nampo Harvest Day which has been tentatively moved to around the second week of August. A final call, however, on weather the show will take place will be made at the end of the month.

She says many equipment manufacturers have already started to prepare themselves for the possibility that Nampo might not take place this year. A positive outcome from this is that these companies have now started to show they are really quick to innovate on how to find alternative ways to interact with their customers.
