NC hope to salvage grade 12 curriculum with winter classes─── 10:58 Wed, 14 Jul 2021

The Northern Cape Basic Education Director-General, Matanzima Mweli, accompanied by Education HOD Moira Marais, visited the winter school camp at Emmanuel Secondary school in Kimberley, with the hope of encouraging and motivating grade 12 learners.
This comes after a strained education curriculum due to the Covid-19 impact has subjected the country to lockdowns, including shutdowns in some parts of the provinces. The Northern Cape Department of Education is reported to have kicked off its school-based Winter Schools for grade 12 learners from 12 July 2021 and it is anticipated to continue until 17 July 2021, despite a call from the president of only reopening schools on 26 July 2021. The Northern Cape Education Department has reiterated the importance of winter classes, citing that it is more helpful for learners who are under-performing in the province.
Whilst, more teachers and supporting staff have been encouraged to vaccinate, the Basic Education sector is expected to conclude its vaccination programme by end of business on Wednesday. The Northern Cape Education MEC, Zolile Monakali, had continually appealed with teachers and supporting staff to get vaccinated, stating that it will contribute towards safer homes, schools and communities.
